Why blog when there are so many out there?

Nov 16, 2019

Today I want to address the question “Why blog” for you and/or your business. Some people feel blogging is dead. Others continue to see it as a way to attract new customers. Some feel there are too many bloggers already out there and claim you’ll just blend in with all the rest. (You should already know I don’t agree with that one! Blending in with the rest is just not acceptable!) Others see blogging as a way to stand out.

What is a blog

(Just in case you didn’t know, you are on a blog reading a blog post right now!)

According to Wikipedia, “a blog is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries. Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page.”

Oxford defines it as “a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.”

Who blogs

Well, this is hard to pinpoint. Basically, anyone who has the gumption to share their knowledge and opinions! It’s not limited to moms or experts or conspiracy theorists. Anyone can blog, and anyone can read blogs!

A quick search revealed over 2 million blog posts are published each day.

Don’t look at that statistic and think “I’ll just blend in with all the others out there!” because if you look at another statistic there are over 77 million comments on blogs daily! That means there are definitely people reading blogs. You can use this to your advantage!

Why blog when there are so many out there?

Simple. Having a blog on your website (or simply having a blog at all) is truly a benefit when you work with people.

Over the next few weeks I’ll go into more detail of why I think blogging might be beneficial to your business. I’ll also explore why I think blogging, in general, can be a good way for some to make a side income.

This week, though, I just want to share a few reasons to blog:

  • Blogging can help your website be found
  • Sharing your knowledge builds trust
  • Blogging helps build your positioning
  • It helps attract an audience
  • It helps you connect with your audience
  • Blogs can be used to educate your audience
  • Blogs can be a means to an income

I think “why blog?” is a very valid question for current website owners to ask. Do I think some people shouldn’t blog? Yes! Blogging isn’t for everyone, and I’ll explore that in the future as well!

Take Action

Do you have a blog? Have you seen it helping your business? If so, how?
