First Steps to Getting Your Business Website Simply Launched

Apr 24, 2019

Over in the Get Your Website Simply Launched facebook group, we’ve been working our way through creating a website. We started with the basic planning that needs to take place and building from there. This post is an extension of a Live I did in the group all about domain names and hosting.

Creating a website for your business helps your business soar. Getting your business website launched isn’t as complicated a process as it might seem. Although I recommend working with a designer, it is totally doable if you are willing to do a lot of research and take the time to learn along the way. Depending on the service or product offered, some businesses are better to start with a full website. Others might find a one-page website to be more than sufficient while getting established and building out to a full website after all the foundation work has been laid. I can help you with both. But for today, let’s get you started on your journey to get online.

What’s Needed to Get Your Website Online

There are two vital things to have in place so you can actually create your space online and here are links to the resources mentioned in the video. Watch the video here to learn more about what to consider in a domain name. It’s more than you think! (The link is at the end of this post, too.)

The links below are for resources I’ve used and trust (for what I’m recommending them for) and I’ve indicated affiliate links with an asterisk, and this means at no additional cost to you, I may receive something from the provider as a thank you for linking to them. I’m only an affiliate for things I trust and have experience with.

So what do you need? You need a domain and hosting for your website to be online, and then of course to install WordPress. Installing WordPress is actually quite simple with many hosts, but also differs slightly between them. Your best bet is to read the tutorials on how to do it that are provided by your hosting. If you purchase your domain from a place other than your host you may also need to read their tutorials about pointing your domain to the host. Again, these tutorials differ between hosts, so I won’t go into detail on these here. (This is a service I provide in my packages.)

Resources for domain name search and purchase:

Namech_k: search to see if the domain name you want is taken

NameCheap*: domain purchase

GoDaddy: another good source for domain purchasing

Resources for hosting:

Flywheel*: Flywheel is great and comes with features like free SSL and free malware cleanup. This means you won’t have to pay for an SSL like you might with other hosts and you will find help if your site gets hacked.

Siteground*: I love Siteground, too! There’s actually only been a handful of times I’ve needed to contact support (usually because of something I’ve done) and the chat support has not failed me yet!

As always, if you have questions or need help, just reach out!

Take Action

Watch the video on what’s really needed before you can get your business online here. Then purchase your domain and hosting!
